GAUTENG E GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT OBTAINS A CLEAN AUDIT OUTCOME FOR THE FINANCIAL YEAR 2021/2022

The Gauteng Department of e-Government (e-Gov) has successfully achieved a clean audit for the financial year 2021 / 2022. This follows an audit conducted by Auditor General (AG) of South Africa on critical issues such as compliance with supply chain (SCM) processes, financial statements, and the performance of the department.

As compared to the 2019 / 2022 financial year, the department has shown great improvements on key areas affecting service delivery and its performance. With regards to the auditing of financial statements, the Auditor General ascertained that there was accountability regarding the department’s financial statements as they were found accurate and complete during the auditing process.

Furthermore, the Auditor General indicated that the department is compliant towards SCM processes. This is because Supply chain management was found with zero tolerance of non-compliance.

MEC for Finance and e-Government Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko expressed gratitude towards her executive team and all the employees of e-Government and indicated that it is adherence to the code of conduct, the zeal to work and perform with integrity as well the internal systems put in place that have contributed to the department’s clean audit outcome.

“We must acknowledge the fact that the performance of a department is linked to how employees conduct themselves and adhere to all the processes put in place to govern the financial and performance integrity of a department. We have come a long way as a department to ensure that we improve, and we conduct ourselves accordingly. Seeing the strategies put in place to change the tide and inculcate good governance, it comes with no surprise that we have achieved a clean audit”.

The MEC further indicated that the department is the first of its kind and so far, the only department tasked with implementing the Fourth Industrial Revolution 4IR in order to modernize government services in Gauteng therefore, it has to lead by example and become a model of excellence in its performance.

“I further want to indicate that the department of e-Government is a unique department. We are the only department in South Africa that is a leading agent of modernization and digitization. Therefore, everyone is watching us, and learning from us”.

The MEC said that the department will ensure that it maintains the clean audit outcome as government is expected to conduct itself uprightly, therefore achieving a clean audit and being accountable to citizens should be the norm.
