GLADAFRICA CHAMPIONSHIP: COUNTDOWN TO FRIDAY KICK-OFF

  • 25 NOV 2020

On Friday afternoon, the 2020/21 edition of the highly-anticipated GladAfrica Championship will officially kick-off.

Both kick-off matches will be in the Western Cape – one in Parow Park and the other at Cape Town Stadium.

There are two new additional faces in the GladAfrica Championship; newly promoted Bizana Pondo Chiefs and Pretoria Callies from the ABC Motsepe League.

While the two newbies will not be part of the opening weekend action, they have already made their intentions clear that their arrival in the GladAfrica Championship is not to merely add numbers but to fight for the main prize.

The stakes in this season’s campaign are high following last season’s oh-so-close season finale that resulted in Swallows FC staging one of the biggest comeback to claim the top prize at the expense of Cape Town Spurs (then Ajax Cape Town).

Cape Town Spurs will be out to right the wrongs on Friday afternoon when they play Polokwane City at Cape Town Stadium at 15h30.

Polokwane City will be playing their first game in the GladAfrica Championship following their relegation from the top flight league last season.

Cape Town All Stars, playing their first game in the GladAfrica Championship after a few years away from the league, will host JDR Stars at Parow Park.

On Saturday, Free State Stars are at home to Uthongathi FC while Cape Umoya United travel to Mpumalanga to play TS Sporting at Kabokweni Stadium.

Sekhukhune United will make their debut in the GladAfrica Championship when they host Royal AM at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.

On Sunday, University of Pretoria (TUKS) will be hosting Richards Bay at TUKS Stadium.

All matches will kick-off at 15h30.

The 2020/21 GladAfrica Championship champions will pocket R3 million. Runner-ups will get R1, 5 million while third place will take home R1 million.
