HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IN REGION B

Recently,  The City of Johannesburg Department of Health held a HIV/AIDS awareness campaign at the Riverlea Recreation Centre.

The HIV/AIDS Awareness campaign forms part of the broader Gauteng Province “Closing the Gap campaign.” According to previous estimates, South Africa has a gap of approximately 1.1 million individuals who are not linked to HIV/AIDS care or have disengaged from antiretroviral therapy treatment. Gauteng Province has gap of an estimated 326 346 people, of which 141 215people are from JHB district.  

“The HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns conducted by the health department around Johannesburg will help us to increase public understanding of HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment and to ensure that the loss to follow-up (LTFU) patients are brought back to treatment,” said Mojalefa Makae Deputy Director Public Health.

Some of the Health services that were available at the Riverlea campaign include:

  • HIV counselling and testing including PrEP
  • TB screening & testing (sputum collection and X-ray)
  • Pap smear (cervical cancer screening)
  • Routine child vaccinations
  • Flu shots & adult Immunizations
  • Health education
