TICKETS UP GRABS FOR THIS MOUTH-WATERING ENCOUNTER BETWEEN BUCCANEERS AND MATSATSANTSA
Its do or die for MTN 8 defending Champions, Orlando Pirates. The Buccaneers are expected to lock horns in a much anticipated quarter final match against Supersport United at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
Football pundits have predicted this will be an easy walk match for Pirates who have a home ground advantage, a vociferous fan-base and a track record of winning this coveted trophy back to back in the past two seasons.
“All eyes will be on Bucs given the cup pedigree they have displayed in the past two seasons,” argued one armchair Bucs supporter, Raymond Rampolokeng.
Buccaneers come to this match as favourites by virtue of first demolishing Amazulu in a hard fought 1-0 win at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban in 2022.
They also repeated the feat and defended this much sought MTN 8 title successfully by beating Pretoria giants Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on penalties to clinch the coveted trophy after battling 130 minutes on a scoreline of 0-0 in 2023.
At a recent launch of 2024/25 MTN8 tournament held at the SABC auditorium both coaches and club captains openly revealed their intentions and desire to win this coveted trophy.
This is what the club coaches told the media entourage.
Bucs Coach, Jose Riveiro said It’s going to be a difficult game. “We had tough preparations but we know where we want to go we are going to try our best.”
“There is no best way to start the season well by winning this upcoming cup match.”
Supersport United Mentor, Gavin Hunt, said “We will have a go. We have quite new guys in our team.
“ You can control performance on the day but You can never control results. We just need to put up a good show even though we are underdogs.”
Supersport Captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo said,
