LEKAY FIRES GALAXY PAST AMAZULU

  • 28 OCT 2020

TS Galaxy secured a 1-0 win over AmaZulu FC in the DStv Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.

The victory saw the Rockets record their first-ever win in the top flight league and they moved up to the sixth spot on the standings, while winless Siwelele are placed 13th.

The Rockets threatened first through Mokete Mogaila following a good move by the hosts 14 minutes into the encounter.

The speedy winger unleashed a good shot which was well-saved by Siyabonga Mbatha, who was well-positioned in the AmaZulu goal-posts.

Galaxy continued to attack and they managed to break the deadlock three minutes before the half-hour mark.

Ibrahim Seedat’s well-taken corner-kick found Wayde Lekay, who headed past Mbatha to make it 1-0 to hand Galaxy a well-deserved lead.

However, Galaxy suffered a blow when their central defender Bevan Fransman went down injured just before halftime and he was replaced by Gerald Modisane.

Galaxy were leading 1-0 during the halftime break.

Coach Ayanda Dlamini introduced Augustine Mulenga prior to the start of the second-half as AmaZulu looked to restore parity.

The Zambia international had an opportunity to make it 1-1 five minutes after the restart, but he placed his effort over the crossbar.

Dlamini’s counterpart, Dan Malesela made a triple change as he introduced Mxolisi Macuphu, Sanele Barns and Bathusi Aubaas in the 65th minute.

AmaZulu had two good chances in the closing stages of the match with Galaxy keeper Wensten Van Der Linde denying Siphelele Mthembu.

Before Mthembu set-up Luvuyo Memela, who was also denied by Van Der Linde to ensure that the game ended in a 1-0 win in favour of Galaxy on the night.
