MAYOR AMAD SWINGS JOBURG LADIES OPEN INTO ACTION

The 2023 Joburg Ladies Open got underway on a scintillating note when the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Thapelo Amad played a flawless first tee-shot on the lush fairways of the Modderfontein Golf Club.

The Joburg Ladies Open International Golf Tournament, co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and the Sunshine Ladies Tour, will award a prize money of €300,000 to the overall winner and all golfers who make the cut.

Mayor Amad said the Joburg Ladies Open validates the City’s standing as a top-notch sports destination and displays its capacity to host world-class events.

“I believe this event will bring investment to Johannesburg since it will be seen by millions of people around the world on television,” he said.

Mayor Amad expressed delight at the opportunity to host international events of this calibre and to showcase the City’s outstanding amenities.

“We have world-class sporting facilities, and it gives us the opportunity to host these large events. This will benefit our economy, notably the tourism industry.”

He said the ladies golf competition established Joburg as a global mecca of all sorts.

“It gives me great pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to all of the foreign and local professional golfers who will be competing in this tournament,” he said.

The Mayor congratulated the Ladies European Tour, the Sunshine Ladies Tour, corporate sponsors, and organisers on a spectacular tournament.

He wished all players well as they vie for top honours ahead of the final round on Saturday, 4 March.
