MEC MZI KHUMALO COMMENDS EXCELLENCE TO GAUTENGS’TOP MATRICULANT

In a celebration of academic excellence and commitment to education, MEC Mzi Khumalo, of the Gauteng Department of e-Government, Research, and Development as well as Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), visited the top matriculant at Madiba Comprehensive School in Kagiso. The student is Thakasile Ayabonga Zungu. This visit served as a tribute to the outstanding achievement of the school’s top-performing student, highlighting the importance of academic success and dedication to learning within the Gauteng province. 

During the visit, MEC Mzi Khumalo congratulated the matriculant on her exceptional performance and expressed admiration for her hard work and determination throughout the academic year. As he was addressing pupils during assembly, the MEC emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone for personal and societal development, commending Madiba Comprehensive School for its commitment to nurturing excellence. He also urged the students to respect their teachers and their academic work, particularly motivating them to embrace science and technology.  

“As Madiba Comprehensive School is one of the few technical schools in the area, I want you learners to let technology be your compass and innovation your guide. Pursue and improve on ICT-related subjects, for they hold the key to unlocking limitless opportunities. Equip yourselves with the skills that will shape tomorrow’s world and lead the way in building a digitally empowered future.” 

The visit included an insightful conversation with the top matriculant, wherein she shed light into her academic journey, future aspirations, and the factors that contributed to her success. MEC Mzi Khumalo acknowledged the role of educators, parents, and the school community in creating an environment that fosters a passion for learning and achievement. 

The top matriculant was awarded a fully paid varsity tuition sponsorship as she highlighted that she will be furthering her studies overseas. Sharing her excitement, Thakasile said “I am truly honored to be recognized as Gauteng’s top matriculant. With my heart set on information and communication technology, I want to help close the technological gap between countries and expand the reach of innovative ideas. My goal now is to gain access to state-of-the-art information by studying abroad. Amidst a world dominated by technological advancement, my ambition is to serve as an agent of positive change, translating my enthusiasm into global solutions.” 

The MEC then proceeded to visit Ithutheng Secondary School, which is also based in Kagiso. Wherein, two of the top learners were each awarded a bursary to pursue their studies, and also laptops were donated to them to make the next chapter of their academic journey smooth sailing.
