THOHOYANDOU READY TO HOST INAUGURAL DISKI SHIELD FESTIVAL

Defending MultiChoice Diski Shield champions Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to mount a strong defense of their trophy this weekend when the Diski Shield tournament kicks-off in Thohoyandou this coming weekend.

This is will be the first ever Diski Shield Festival staged in Thohoyandou, Limpopo. The festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday – with the first fixture scheduled to kick-off at 10h00.

Entry is free on both days but members of the public can collect their tickets at Spar outlets in Nzhelele, Sibasa, Saselemane, Thohoyandou and Thavhani Mall.

The opening festival will feature clubs in Group A and B: Baroka FC, Polokwane City, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates, Black Leopards, Mamelodi Sundowns, Highlands Park and Kaizer Chiefs.

The opening game of the Diski Shield festival on Saturday, will be between two Polokwane based outfits, Baroka FC and Polokwane City at 10h00. Later Bidvest Wits will play Orlando Pirates at 12h00.

On Sunday, Black Leopards will host Mamelodi Sundowns at 10h00 in front of their home crowd. At 12h00, the defending champions Kaizer Chiefs will be in action against Highlands Park.

Memories are still fresh of the Kaizer Chiefs triumph last season. They defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in the final to claim the top prize.

THE GROUPS AND HOW IT WILL WORK:
There are four Groups in the Diski Shield: Group A, B, C and D

Group A – Bidvest wits, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Highlands Park.
Group B – Bloemfontein Celtic, Cape Town City, Free State Stars and SuperSport United.
Group C – Baroka FC, Black Leopards, Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City.
Group D – AmaZulu FC, Chippa United, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United.

In the first round of the tournament, clubs will play each other once and the club with the highest number of points at the end of the group stages will progress to the semi-finals.
