The Nedbank Cup’s eagerly awaited round of 32 draw took place at a dazzling ceremony held at the Nedbank headquarters in Sandton, Johannesburg. The event produced some stimulating ties that will guarantee a thrilling start to the competition.

2018 marks a new chapter for Nedbank and the Premier Soccer League after the two parties extended their partnership for another five years. Current CAF representatives, SuperSport United are the defending champions after making history last season by becoming the first club to defend the trophy in the Nedbank Cup era.

PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has wished all the teams the best of luck. The Chairman thanked Nedbank for their genuine commitment to football while also stating that the sponsorship of the tournament has been a game-changer for the local game.

“It’s a great feeling to be part of a historic occasion where we prolong the marriage between the PSL and Nedbank. It has been an eventful 10 years. Nedbank understands that football is about giving everyone an opportunity in this country to see things differently, but more importantly, when they came in with an education drive to turn the country green, it was one of those experiences that made me understand the value of nature.”

Dr Khoza added: “In the last 10 years of our partnership, the most memorable experience for me was when Mike Brown (Nedbank Group CEO) stood up and encouraged all of us in the country – to see money differently. This is also my message to players and the football fraternity.”

In 2017, Nedbank celebrated a ten-year milestone of the sponsorship of South Africa’s most loved Cup competition that gives amateur clubs a once in a lifetime shot at glory by taking on the established big boys.

Following the incredible success of the last ten years, Head of Sponsorship and Cause Marketing at Nedbank Tobie Badenhorst is delighted to be continuing on this journey: “The past ten years of the Nedbank Cup have exceeded all our expectations on and off the field. On the field we have seen lesser-known teams become household names as they upset their more fancied opponents. Off the field, we are money experts who do good by investing in football, the passion of many South Africans. We are committed to getting your money back to you by helping you manage it like never before.”

The Ke Yona Team Search, which has been an integral part of the Nedbank Cup for the past five years, was also launched on the night and registration is officially open. This is for aspiring hopefuls between the ages of 18-23. The Ke Yona Team Search is a nationwide talent search programme that has seen over 25 previously unknown players secure professional contracts, after being scouted by the highly acclaimed Ke Yona coaches. To register, interested players must simply dial *120*539662# (*120*KEYONA#)

This year’s Ke Yona Team Search will also give the fans a chance to be part of the action by selecting which of the final 18 players go to their favourite PSL clubs with Nedbank introducing an interactive player draft process. Part of this will be through the first ever football specific App (Nedbank Cup App) in the country. The Nedbank Cup App offers numerous engagement opportunities for supporters, as well as regular prizes throughout the duration of the Nedbank Cup and Ke Yona Team Search.

Nedbank remains dedicated to the communities we serve and committed to the financial wellness of all South Africans. Throughout the tournament, a number of exciting products will be rolled out to the market, as Nedbank continues to encourage consumers to See Money Differently while also demonstrating how money well managed can make a difference in people’s lives.
