Police killings a big headache for Commissioner
Recent spate of police killings is a great concern to Gauteng Police commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba . The commissioner told this publication that this is a sad state of affairs . “We are losing too many policemen , This is unacceptable. One police killed deprives about 350 people quality policing.” Mothiba also issued a stern warning to those involved in the slaying of the men in blue. “We want you to know that we will hunt you, arrest you and make sure that you serve a long jail sentence.”
Kate Lorimer, of the Democratic Alliance, added her voice and said, The high rate of police killings is unacceptable.
Every effort must be made to find and convict the killers. The criminal justice system needs to make an example of just a few who are
found guilty and who then receive very strict sentences. Only then will the criminals realise that it does not pay to kill law enforcement officers.”
