PROGRESS ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THUBELIHLE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL IN JABAVU, SOWETO

The construction work at Thubelihle Intermediate in Soweto is progressing steadily despite challenges. This facility is an initiative to restore and upgrade school infrastructure in Soweto, Johannesburg. Commissioned by the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), the project aims to enhance learning environments, improve administration facilities, and upgrade overall school infrastructure to meet modern educational standards.

The next focus areas on the project include tiling, plumbing, roof sheeting, doors, glazing, electrical works and ensuring regulatory approvals are finalized. The scope of work includes Brand new classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids, Energy efficient lighting and ventilation, Accessible facilities for learners with disabilities, Renovated admin offices for improved school operations, Upgraded IT infrastructure for digital learning, Gender-segregated ablution blocks with running water, Water-saving and hygiene-focused installations, New storm water drainage to prevent flooding, Paved walkways and green landscaping, Enhanced perimeter fencing and safer access points.

According to the Project Manager, progress onsite is as follows: Roof installations in Block D is 95% completed, Brickworks in block C are 90% complete, Roof trusses installation in Block c are 100% complete, Tiling installation in Block J is 90% complete and Sewer manhole construction stands at 95% completion.

The project team is actively working to resolve ongoing challenges to meet the targeted completion date. Continued stakeholder engagement and risk management will be crucial for project success.
