Siwelele FC and Durban City delivered a pulsating four-goal thriller, sharing the spoils in a 2-2 Betway Premiership stalemate at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Tuesday night.
The result leaves Siwelele in ninth position on the league table with three games still to play. The Free State side will now travel to Pretoria to face defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Durban City, meanwhile, remain in sixth place after failing to build on their recent Nedbank Cup triumph. The South African FA Cup holders will aim to return to winning ways when they host Stellenbosch on Friday.
Siwelele were forced to keep a close watch on Jean Lwamba, who arrived in red-hot form with four goals in three matches for City. The DR Congolese striker wasted little time adding to his tally, striking in the sixth minute to hand City a 1-0 lead.
The advantage, however, proved short-lived. Just six minutes later, the hosts restored parity through Bohlale Ngwato’s first-ever professional goal, with Yandisa Mfolozi providing the assist. The teams went into halftime locked at 1-1.
After halftime, the hosts regained the lead in the 58th minute when Ghampani Lungu scored from a Siphesihle Jeza assist, making it 2-1 to Siwelele. The duo had also combined in Siwelele’s recent win over Kaizer Chiefs.
However, Lwamba – in scintillating form and the reigning Botswana Premier League Player of the Season – rescued a point for City on the night. The lefty completed his brace with a 77th-minute equaliser, forcing the game to finish 2-2.
