SAMSUNG’S LATEST A HIT AMONG MEDIA PROS

It’s been just over a month since the Galaxy A57 broke into the South African market, and media professionals are predicting it to be a heavy hitter in its category.

The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G hit stores in South Africa on 24 April 2026, replacing its the A56 which was released on 2 March 2025.

The latest offering in Samsung’s A-series brings huge upgrades over the older Galaxy A56. The sleek new frame is just 6.9mm thick and weighs a light 179 grams. It steps up to a tougher IP68 rating for better water and dust protection.

Under the hood, the faster Exynos 1680 chipset delivers a ‘snappy’ performance and smooth multitasking. It also boots straight into the latest Android 16 software for a fresher user experience.

On top of that, the newer processor brings advanced AI capabilities directly to your fingertips. Screen bezels are noticeably thinner, giving you a cleaner view for videos and gaming. Battery efficiency gets a massive boost to keep you going all day.

The camera system also captures sharper low-light photos than its predecessor – one of the standout features for Siya Ndlela, who has been a sports journalist for nearly a decade and amassed a social media following of over 160,000 across social media.

“As a self-proclaimed tech head myself, I’d say it comes at the right time. I think people are now really cautious about the device they choose,” Ndlela, who was among several media professionals in attendance at Mall of Africa for the phone’s retail launch told Egoli Jozi News.

“Ideally, you’d like to have something that can do it all in terms of picture quality, processing and reliability, and that’s what the A57 is in the time I’ve been using it.”

The Galaxy A57 sits at the peak of Samsung’s top-tier mid-range lineup. It launched side-by-side with the somewhat more budget-friendly Galaxy A37 to dominate the affordable volume market.

While it sits comfortably below the flagship, Galaxy S26 series, it borrows the high-end design cues like a premium metal frame and slim bezels. It is arguably the most capable A-series device the brand has ever dropped.
