27 October 2017 – A Workshop for coaches in the Sasol League took place at the Embalenhle Sasol Club in Mpumalanga on Friday, 27 October 2017.
Led by Banyana Banyana interim coach, Desiree Ellis and her technical, the knowledge sharing session included key aspects of the game such as tactical and technical awareness of players, conditioning, psycho/social development, skills development and preparation for matches and tournaments were discussed at length with the local Sasol League coaches.
The Coaches Workshop is part of the Sasol League Roadshow, held in conjunction with the South African Football Association (SAFA), and will include provincial playoffs where the top four teams in each of the two streams in Mpumalanga will face off to determine the provincial champions. The winner will represent the province at the 2017 Sasol League National Championship.
“The development of the women’s game begins with the club coaches – so regular and ongoing interaction with the Sasol League coaches is key in furthering the development of our players, which bodes well for our national teams. The Sasol League Roadshow enables us to visit various regions in the country and share our knowledge with coaches, so that they can incorporate it in their team’s structures to ensure we are all working towards the same goal when it comes to women’s football,” said Desiree Ellis – Interim Head Coach of Banyana Banyana.
“The Coaches Workshop is a critical component of the Sasol League Roadshow, which is an extension of our sponsorship of women’s football where SAFA and Sasol aim to further improve the women’s game by developing coaches. Our commitment to women empowerment and sports development starts from the ground up and that includes coaches and members of their technical teams who are important in ensuring that the level of women’s football continues on its upwards trajectory in our country,” said Brenda Mopeli – Sasol Brand Marketing Specialist.
Notably, Sasol recently renewed their sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league, an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa for another four (4) years until 2021.
The Sasol League takes place across all the nine provinces of South Africa.
Matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon and will culminate with the National Championships that take place over a period of one week towards the end of the year.
