Derby 2

Round Two: #AbsaPrem Tshwane Derby

SuperSport United are out to return to winning ways in the Absa Premiership when they host cross town rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

Kick-off is at 7:30pm.

The Tshwane giants are set to lock horns for the second time in less than a week as they renew their rivalry in the league, but United will hope to emerge as victors this time.

Amatsantsantsa A Pitori are also looking to return to winning ways to keep their title aspirations alive and keep up with the table-topping teams.

Pitso Mosimane’s men beat United 5-0 last Thursday in the league and revenge for United is on the cards as they will be a different team come Wednesday.

Besides their loss last week, the Nedbank Cup defending champions lost to Baroka FC in the league before beating Liberia’s Barrack Young Controllers 5-0 on Sunday to reach the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Looking at the log table, United occupy the fifth spot with 37 points.

“We are not thinking about revenge, but about playing a much better match,” defender Clayton Daniels said.

“A proud game that we could be proud of ourselves, and play the way we know we can.

“We will give it our all and to fight (for the league title) until the end.”

Checking the visiting side, Sundowns will want to claim their third consecutive win after overcoming Free State Stars last weekend in the league as well.

Sitting at No 4 with 41 points from 21 matches has boosted Mosimane’s men as they head to Lucas Moripe.

Despite their league loss to Kaizer Chiefs and a defeat to Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup, the Chloorkop-based side has managed to bounce back.

“I’m relieved about the SuperSport win as there was tension and a lot of stress. I hadn’t been sleeping properly because we were not scoring goals,” said Mosimane.

“But I’m now feeling better. The quality is there for everyone to see and I knew that once we started scoring, we would give someone a hiding.

“I must tell you, we are feeling it (the heavy fixture schedule), but we are mentally strong and we want to win the game so if you are mentally strong and you want to win the game, that is important.”
