Dozens of sports fanatics, well wishers, educators and families came in dozens to witness fourth edition of the Gauteng School Sport Awards held at the Auditorium Hall Wits Education campus in Parktown.

These awards were held under the theme ‘Celebrating Today’s Stars, Tomorrow’s Champions’ and lived up to expectation infront of a packed to the rafters crowd.

The evening was also graced by the attendance of principals of various schools in the province and saw winners in 16 categories being recognized for their excellence in school sports achieved during 2016.

Accolades of acclaim were presented to the young athletes, school teams, coaches, officials and institutions of learning which excelled to great heights over the past year.

The night’s biggest winners were Nkosilathi Moyo who walked away with his third Coach of the year title for his work with the Troyeville Primary School Volleyball team.

Volleyball won for Code of the Year for the third consecutive year, whilst Isipho Sethu Special School took home three trophies for learners with special educational needs (LSEN) School of the Year.

Administrator of the Year went to Khethiwe Ndala and LSEN School Female Athlete of the Year went to young athletics rising star, Mary Dzimba who nabbed the same prize in 2014.

Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Faith Mazibuko, praised the winners for making the province proud and the home of champions.
