SIX TIPS FOR SPECTATORS TO ENJOY GREAT LIVE ACTION AT THE 2026 JOBURG OPEN

It is not every day you get to stand meters away from professional golfers as they line up a pressure put. But as the prestigious international golf tournament, Joburg Open returns to Houghton Golf Club, residents across the City have the rare opportunity to experience the action live.

Players on the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour will compete for the title and a share of the prize purse from Thursday, 5 March, to Sunday, 8 March. As the host city, Johannesburg invites residents to be part of the experience. Instead of watching from a screen, fans can walk the fairways, follow their favourite players, and witness every shot up close.

Here’s how you can best prepare for the tournament

  1. Use Park and ride services: No parking is available at the Houghton Golf Club and all spectators driving will be required to park at the Norwood Mall. A shuttle will transport spectators from Norwood Mall, at the Burger King entrance, at 7am from Thursday to Sunday. The service will run in 30-minute intervals. From 4pm, transport will return spectators back to the mall.
  2. Drop-off: Spectators who use e-hailing services should use the drop-off entrance at Houghton Golf Club, 2nd Avenue gate.
  3. Tickets: Purchase tickets online before making your way to the tournament through the Sunshine Tour Events platform to avoid delays at the gate.
  4. Food and drinks available: Vendors will be on site in the spectators’ village for comfort food and drinks to elevate the experience.
  5. Comfortable shoes: Wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget to bring a hat and sunscreen.
  6. Tag, repost and share: As you enjoy the tournament tag, repost and share the City’s official Joburg Open Instagram page.

The Executive Mayor of the City, Cllr Dada Morero, says Joburg looks forward to hosting players and fans. “This international golf tournament places Johannesburg on the global stage. It shows that our City can host world-class sporting events, which open doors for investments, tourism, and partnerships across the world.”

Cllr Morero adds that the tournament offers fans a unique opportunity. “We invite the public to come and experience professional golf up close, to walk alongside the players and enjoy this entertainment right here at home. This tournament is for everyone.”
