30 October 2019 – South Africa FUTSAL team beat Mauritius 5-1 in the second leg at Orlando Communal Hall on Wednesday evening to complete a huge 11-1 aggregate score and in the process, qualified for the CAF FUTSAL AFCON 2020 Morocco finals which will take place in April next year.
South Africa beat Mauritius 6-0 in the first leg in Port Louis last Saturday and the 5-1 win at Orlando Communal Hall on Wednesday night completed a comprehensive win for the home side.
The qualification of the FUTSAL team is another statement by South African national teams in line with SAFA’s blueprint of Vision 2022 in which all of the national teams must qualify for major tournaments.
In Wednesday night’s game, the home side got their goals through Quincy Ngcobo, captain Wiseman Cele, Yazeed Joharie, Renaldo Donnely and Jean Marc Ryan.
Eight nations will play at the 2020 AFCON Futsal tournament, which will be hosted by Morocco in April next year.
Already qualified are the hosts, Morocco, as well as Egypt, Mozambique, Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea.
Guinea and Equatorial Guinea qualified for the AFCON after both Cape Verde and Cameroon withdrew from their respective matches.
The top three at the tournament will represent the African continent at the 2020 FIFA Futsal World Cup, which will be held in Lithuania from 12 September to 4 October next year.
South Africa were full value of their huge win on Wednesday and already leading massively from the first leg, decided to go for showboating limiting a potential further humiliation for the visitors who looked weary and demoralized.
