Monica Newton hits the ground running as new Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation HOD

Monica Newtown, is the new Head of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

 

Monica Newton has officially assumed her position as the Head of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation yesterday and is excited to begin her journey as HOD of the department as the nation enters Women’s Month.

 

A veteran in public service with nearly 20 years’ experience, Newton was the Deputy Director-General: Arts and Culture Promotion and Development at the national Department of Arts and Culture, amongst other provincial, local government and statutory body portfolios.

 

Speaking on her new role as Head of the department, Monica Newton says “I am thrilled to be joining such a dynamic department full of so much potential. I am looking forward to bringing my experience and knowledge to the department, learning about the new areas of work and environment and interacting with the staff and engaging with the communities of Gauteng. I wish to thank Premier David Makhura and MEC Faith Mazibuko for the opportunity to serve the people of Gauteng and the Gauteng Provincial Government in this capacity, and look forward to what will be fruitful years ahead”.

 

“I am very excited to have Ms Newton join the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. I look forward to working closely with her in ensuring we take the department the great new heights as we continue moving the Gauteng City Region forward.” Says MEC  Mazibuko.
