STANDARD BANK HOSTS SECOND ANNUAL UNIHACK

Standard Bank will host its second annual UniHack event in Cape Town between 2 and 3 July.

The event, the second version following the success of the inaugural event last year, is an extension of the annual Group Kuunda Disrupt Hackathon, targeted at technology graduates, and designed to expose customer-centric, innovative solutions to everyday challenges.

“This year’s UniHack is set to increase technology presence and recruit new talent in the Western Cape region. We are proud to be in a position to build on the success of our inaugural Unihack with a second iteration, based on last year this offers students a great opportunity to build innovative solutions in an environment that is similar to today’s corporate set-up” says Jörg Fischer, Standard Bank Group Chief Information Officer.

The theme for this year’s event is Ideation, Innovation, Impact. It will run over two days and consist of ten teams with four to six members in each team.

“This year’s cohort is drawn from four prestigious universities.

This underpins our keen focus on broadening the reach of the event and offering more opportunities to more aspiring students,” adds  Fischer.

Each team selected for the Unihack will have to develop innovative solutions in response to various challenges that are applicable to financial services and broader society.

Teams will be allocated two days to develop their solutions which will be judged upon completion of the presenting their proof of concept to the diverse judging panel.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams.

“This year’s Unihack will be a good test case based on our expansionary focus and we hope to continue to use platforms such as this to drive the identification of young talent and the development of future leaders,” concluded Fischer.
