SWEAT-INDUCING AEROBICS CLASS ENCOURAGES HEALTHY LIVING IN REGION A

Ivory Park North Hall recently hosted an aerobics session where all things fitness were the order of the day.

The City of Johannesburg’s Sport and Recreation (Region A) organised the calorie-burning session to encourage the community of Ivory Park to participate in healthy lifestyle activities.

“The Healthy Lifestyle programme continues to be a big success, and all credit goes to the Region A’s Sport and Recreation team for always delivering the programme in such a professional and well-coordinated manner,” said Mandla Mahlangu, the Assistant Director for Sport and Recreation in Region A.

“We have people who participate in aerobics for a variety of reasons. Some do it as a hobby, while others do it to achieve certain body goals,” said Mahlangu, who added that a healthy lifestyle is what a lot of people are leaning towards, and that it can assist in keeping the youth off the streets and away from drugs.

Aerobics improves cardiovascular health and functions. It can also help people build stronger bones, sleep better, and even live longer lives. Aerobics is by far one of the most effective methods for living a longer and healthier life.

The fun-filled session, which was organized in collaboration with local aerobics clubs, was aimed at community members of all ages and started at 7am until 9am.

Sarah Phasha, 19, expressed gratitude to her mother for introducing her to the sport. “Today’s emphasis was not just on aerobics, but also on learning general life skills. My self-esteem has increased, and I can now engage with everyone confidently and effortlessly, unlike previously when I was shy,” she said. “This is also a good initiative that keeps us active so that we don’t engage in the negative things that are going on in our neighbourhood,” she added.
