The battle line was set from the first whistle and Peter Shalulile had the first bite as he took a snapshot in the box but keeper Ismael Watenga was alert to make a point-blank save. Themba Zwane and Lebo Maboe combined to open up spaces behind the home sides’ defence but they kept it together and managed to clear the danger. In the fifteenth minute, Aubrey Modiba found space on the right-hand side and was fouled by the defender in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, the resulting kick was scored by Zwane who got his ninth of the season in the league.

Shalulile kept the Chilli Boys’ defence on their toes, he had another chance to extend the lead but his shot was blocked. Siphelele Mkhulise who was having a stellar of a game in the middle also tried his luck in the later parts of the first half but his effort could only hit the body of the defender. Denis Onyango who had little to do most of the half was called to make a save as halftime was looming. The first stanza ended with Masandawana in the lead.

Zwane started off where the team ended in the opening half, he found himself in the box after some great interplay with Shalulile, his well-placed attempt could only hit the post with Watenga well-beaten. Chippa United managed to grab an equaliser early in the second half as Augustine Kwem beat Onyango with a well taken shot to make it 1-1.

Masandawana upped the ante to chase a second goal and take the game away from United, Mkhulise had back to back chances in the seventy-second minute but the ball did not want to hit the back of the net. Cometh the hour, cometh the man, Shalulile managed to find the back of the net with a header after Modiba’s cross was headed by Maboe against the crossbar and the rebound fell for the Namibian frontman. This was his ninth goal in the DStv Premiership which sees him level with Zwane in the race for the golden boot.
