TTM, ALL STARS BOOK NEDBANK CUP LAST 16 SPOTS

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) and Cape Town All Stars progressed to the Nedbank Cup Last 16 after recording wins on Thursday.

TTM caused an upset when they eliminated five-time Nedbank Cup champions SuperSport United in the Last 32 match at the Thohoyandou Stadium in the evening.

It was Thabo Mnyamane, who came back to haunt his former club as he scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute to inspire Tshakhuma to a 1-0 victory.

Tshakhuma goalkeeper Washington Arubi made some smart saves to keep SuperSport at bay as he denied Evans Rusike and Bradley Grobler.

The win saw TTM reach the Last 16 for the first time since 2019, while their DStv Premiership rivals SuperSport crashed out of the lucrative tournament.

Meanwhile, All Stars proved too strong for fellow GladAfrica Championship side Bizana Pondo Chiefs in the Last 32 game at the King Zwelithini Stadium in the afternoon.

Wassem Isaacs opened the scoring to hand All Stars the lead in the 21st minute, but Ayanda Mvambi levelled matters for Chiefs on the stroke of half-time.

A second-half which was dominated by the visitors followed as Ndiviwe Mdabuka scored to make it 2-1 to All Stars just after the hour-mark.

All Stars’ 3-1 win was then sealed by Jaisen Clifford, who hit the back of the net in the last minute of the match with the 25-year-old midfielder scoring on debut.

As a result, All Stars advanced to the Last 16 for the first time in the club’s history, while Chiefs bowed out of the competition.© Backpage TXT.
