Long before becoming one of the country’s brightest young stars with Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana at the World Cup, Mofokeng showcased his talent at the 2022 Engen Knockout Challenge while representing the School of Excellence. His performances at the tournament attracted interest from several Premier Soccer League clubs, with Orlando Pirates ultimately securing the signature of the rising star.

Today, Mofokeng’s journey has come full circle with a move to one of Belgium’s leading clubs, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, underlining the Engen Knockout Challenge’s long-standing contribution to identifying and developing South Africa’s next generation of football players, coaches and match officials.

Congratulating Mofokeng on his achievement, Engen Brand & Sponsorship Manager, Tsholo Tiro, said his success reflected what the tournament was created to achieve.

“Relebohile Mofokeng’s journey is a source of immense pride for the Engen Knockout Challenge. Watching him progress from representing the School of Excellence to becoming one of Africa’s brightest young players and earning a move to Europe, is exactly why we continue investing in youth football. His success reinforces our belief that this is truly Where Diski Legends Start.”

The 21-year-old is not the only recent graduate to shine brightly at the World Cup. KwaZulu-Natal-born defender, Mbekezeli Mbokazi (20) caught global attention at the global showpiece alongside Mofokeng – adding to the growing list of Engen Knockout Challenge graduates shining at the global stage.
