Pulsating and high octane football will be at best display in an exhibition mouth-watering encounter between the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup Champions Magesi FC and Carling All Star X1 at Orlando Stadium this afternoon.
Last year the Carling All Star team selected by Champions fans beat the then inaugural winners Stellenbosch FC 2-1 to lift the trophy.
This Limpopo based Carling Knockout Cup Champions outfit were recently toast of the country after eliminating Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup first round in a five goal thriller and went all the way to beat PSL Champions Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 to lift the cup in the final match.
Organisers revealed that to date more than 4,5 million votes were casted by Champion fans around the country compared to last year’s 3.2 million votes and the final starting eleven comprising a youthful galaxy of stars has been confirmed.
At a recent media briefing, Kerryn Greenleaf, Brand Director of Carling Black Label told packed journalists they were exceptionally happy and excited about the developments leading to the final match.
She also revealed tickets are still on sale for fans wishing to attend the match.
“It’s such a big moment where we are now. Fans came out to support us in a big way. We are exceptionally super excited and there will also be entertainment on the day. Champions fans will get something they never expected.
“We encourage fans to get their tickets and get to the stadium early. Tickets are moving fast at Ticket Pro and Spar. This is something they will never see. This team is a unique one they will never see again. We give our champions fans unprecedented control of the game.”
Bertie Gobbelaar, Managing Director of Stadium Management South Africa warned mobile fans not to pay for parking.
“There is ample free parking space for everyone within the Orlando Stadium precinct and a number of designated schools that will be used for parking purposes.”
Up-beat Orlando Pirates Coach and Carling All Star X1, Jose Riveiro, told the media It’s not a revenge match for him after his team was eliminated by Amagesi FC.
“It’s nice to still feel the support to be voted by people we are representing. We had a good experience last year . Not only because we lifted the cup but because of the friendship and camaraderie we created for the first four days together. I am excited to meet the new players.”
Pressed to elaborate, He said, “ It’s a different thing it’s a team that eliminated us from this competition early. Magesi is a tough team to play against and a good definition of the word team .It’s an opportunity for players to know and understand each other very quickly on the pitch. We will try and put the players in the same page. Looking forward to an exciting weekend it’s a scoring game we hope to score more goals more than our opponent. Hopefully we can entertain the people attending this match I am happy to represent these boys and give them the space and the right platform to express themselves.
