JOHANNESBURG CITY PARKS AND ZOO JOINS THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR IN INNER-CITY CLEAN-UP AND SERVICE RESTORATION

In a bold and decisive move to restore order, cleanliness, and essential services to the inner city, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) has joined forces with all City of Joburg service delivery and enforcement departments in a large-scale operation spanning 11 wards.

JCPZ has deployed seven regional teams to undertake extensive clearing, pruning, and removal of overgrown vegetation along main routes, ensuring safer and cleaner public spaces for residents and commuters. These dedicated teams are being shadowed by park rangers who have been actively removing abandoned informal structures and clearing heavily littered sleeping areas of displaced persons, further contributing to the overall revitalization of the inner city.

Despite challenging weather conditions, including relentless rain, this massive operation is a testament to the City’s unwavering commitment to service delivery and urban renewal.

Work commenced at 5 am yesterday morning to limit traffic disruptions, and the clean-up efforts continued tirelessly, with teams strategically deployed along main thoroughfares from Nasrec to Yeoville to minimize traffic disruptions while maximizing impact.

JCPZ’s Managing Director, Thanduxolo Mendrew, paid tribute to the resilience and dedication of the teams, acknowledging their willingness to work come rain or shine in service of a cleaner, safer Johannesburg.

“The commitment displayed by our teams is a reflection of our shared vision for a well-maintained and orderly city. The inner city is the heart of Johannesburg, and we remain steadfast in our mission to restore its beauty and functionality,” said Thanduxolo Mendrew.

As operations continue, residents are encouraged to support and cooperate with the ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the city’s public spaces. Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo remains committed to creating a greener, cleaner, and more liveable environment for all.
