Castrol and Lindenberg Racing together with Shelby South Africa, the official mod-shop of Shelby American in Sub-Saharan Africa, are once again a hot item. With a rich, 35+ year history of association with the highly successful Lindenberg Racing Team, and more recently Shelby South Africa, Castrol is again an official partner in 2025.
Says Paige Lindenberg, GM Marketing of Shelby South Africa, “We are really excited to have Castrol with us again from 2025. Castrol will be the approved and preferred supplier of all lubricants for Shelby vehicle servicing and for the Lindenberg Racing team, and their sponsorship will help support the logistics and operations of the team throughout 2025 and 2026. Our past relationship has been enormously successful and 2025 is gearing up to be the landmark year for Lindenberg Racing – and this partnership.
“Shelby South Africa and Lindenberg Racing are big names in performance vehicles and wields significant star power in the local motorsport arena,” says Jenny Heyes, Marketing Director Africa at Castrol. The Shelby tagline is ‘Performance is what we do’ and we are honoured to have the products that contributes measurably to that success.”
Shelby, the custom performance vehicle manufacturer, is known globally for its premium upgrade of Ford Mustangs, and famously for the Shelby-enhanced Ford Mustang GT40’s string of wins from1966 to 1969 against Ferrari (and others) at Le Mans. Shelby South Africa was launched in 2016 by local racing legend Peter Lindenberg. With a team of technicians trained by Shelby American in Las Vegas, it offers a variety of upgrades for Mustangs purchased at Ford dealerships, including the GTE, GT-H, Super Snake, Wide Body, and Carroll Shelby Signature Edition. Most recently, the Shelby GT350 has also been announced.
“Castrol is not just another sponsor, says Lindenberg. “Our service engineers and race car technicians swear by these products. When it comes to high-performance vehicles of this calibre, you need lubricants that ensure you can get the best from the car when you need it most – that is on the track but also every day to preserve the longevity of the vehicle. It is an excellent brand that we – and the whole Lindenberg Racing and Shelby SA community – are very pleased to use and be associated with.”
2025 will be a big year
Lindenberg Racing and Team Shelby South Africa is looking forward to a year of increased competitiveness for the racing team as well as greater Shelby community participation in motorsports as demand for the vehicle, the lifestyle and the thrill of racing grows. This suggests high brand awareness wins for both Castrol and Lindenberg Racing with Shelby SA.
The 2024 release of the newest Ford muscle car, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse with its 5-liter, V8 engine and menacing good looks, has added momentum. “There is a definite uptick in interest around the unique Shelby vehicle performance enhancements as this vehicle comes into its own,” says Lindenberg. “It was one of the most highly anticipated vehicles of 2024 and with the Shelby Supercharge this 830+ horsepower sports car is designed to be the highest performing Shelby Super Snake.
“We are going into the new year with a strong racing team that has performed very well over 2024 and is well positioned to excel in our selected classes in major race events in 2025. We have six vehicles in the Lindenberg Racing Historic series team and Shelby SA will also launch an official Alternative Shelby Customer Team in 2025. This team will include five customers with their own vehicles, as well as Paige Lindenberg and James Temple from the Lindenberg Racing Team.”
“As we move into 2025 with Shelby SA and Lindenberg Racing, Castrol is as excited as South Africa’s motorsport fans,” says Jenny. “We look forward to being a part of this demanding, adrenaline-driven community.”
