Johannesburg, 1 July 2019:  The 2019 Carling Black Label Cup has given supporters greater power with the introduction of some innovative game-changers to select from, ahead of the epic clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the towering FNB Stadium on 27 July 2019 and fans are loving it!

On Monday, 01 July 2019 Carling Black Label revealed the most voted for game-changers which will be implemented at the football spectacle at FNB Stadium. Supporters will not only select their team’s starting line-ups on match day, but they can now also make their pick for captain, contribute to theselection of substitutions and select the Man of the Match, both through Twitter.

“Since the launch of the 2019 edition of the Carling Black Label Cup, we have witnessed how fans were leaning towards the announced game changers.  This is indicative of the acknowledgement of technology in shaping the future of football.  Fans also expressed their appreciation of the power afforded to them, in not just selecting the starting line-up but further drawing closer to the team make-up.” Carling Black Label Director, Grant Pereira said.

The other four game-changers which fans had an option to select included the match officials wearing a  microphone for  viewers watching on TV to hear the referee; Champion Coaches  replacing the goalkeeper  as a fourth substitution; rolling substitutions where players can be voted in and out of the pitch at any stage of the match and yellow card ‘time-outs’ where players must leave the field for a period of two to five minutes if, they pick up a caution.

“The game-changers give us more power as the fans to run the game. We are the coaches, the organizers are just the messengers!” said an excited Kaizer Chiefs fan, Jacob ‘Hunter’ Mokwena . The game-changers were introduced to amplify the fan experience and are driven by technology which Mokwena says is very exciting for supporters.

“The future of football looks bright considering the uniqueness of the Carling Black Label Cup and its innovative approach has been at the forefront, it truly gives us as fans the chance to be closer to the game and control what goes on. This is a first of its kind in the world. You don’t find a tournament anywhere in the world where the fans are so in control of the game. We are the coaches of the game!” concluded an ecstatic Mokwena.

Orlando Pirates fan Kamohelo Otto echoed Hunter’s words by expressing how the selected game-changers amplify the Champion voices in real-time by using Twitter as a communication tool. ” Most of the time, the supporters go wild when coaches make the wrong substitutes so now, we have the power to make the subs, we can’t complain – you just need to take out your phone and do what you have to do!” said Otto. “Social media is playing a huge role for us fans because now we don’t only get to connect with our fellow teams, we are now getting the platform to do so much more with the game-changers.”. Social media is a powerful tool and we are using it brilliantly in this campaign.” Concluded the Bucs fan.

As a Cup game that places the power in the hands of the Champion fans, Carling Black Label will give two lucky consumers over the age of 18 an opportunity to win the ultimate Champion Coach experience; where they will coach the Soweto Giants during training, sit in the pre-match briefing and be part of the dugout on match day. Consumers can enter by purchasing a selected Carling Black Label beer and dialing *120*660* unique code # to enter.
