More than a feeling: Success can be measured, planned and protected
This Women’s Month, Momentum is encouraging South African women to move beyond simply dreaming about success and start defining it with a number.
Whether it’s the amount saved for a first home, the capital needed to launch a business, an investment portfolio, retirement savings, a personal best on the track, or the number of jobs created, Momentum’s She Owns Her Success campaign believes success becomes more achievable when it is measurable.
The campaign, which is in its 8th season introduces the theme “Success Has a Number”, which encourages women to define, grow, protect and ultimately achieve the financial goals that matter most to them. Rather than prescribing what success should look like, Momentum is empowering women to identify their own number and build practical plans to reach it.

Qhawekazi Mdikane, Head of Brand, Momentum, says the campaign is about helping women transform ambition into action.
“Success means something different to every woman, but one thing remains true: when you can define it, you can start building towards it. Whether it’s saving for your first home, growing a business, preparing for retirement or becoming financially independent, every goal has a number behind it. Through She Owns Her Success, we want women to move from simply hoping their future will happen to actively planning, protecting and owning it. Success becomes more achievable when it becomes measurable.”

The campaign is informed by Momentum and Kantar’s 2025 The Success Women Want Report, which surveyed 2,000 South African women aged 18 and older. The research found that women define success far beyond wealth alone, with financial independence, health, education, career progression, relationships and personal fulfilment all playing equally important roles.
The findings reveal the realities many women continue to navigate:
· 68% view financial independence as a key measure of success.
· Only one in three women feels financially secure.
· 56% financially support others, making careful financial planning essential.
· 43% of South African households are female-led.
For many women, success begins with practical milestones rather than luxury. Nearly half associate success with having savings or investments (46%), being debt-free (45%) and earning a stable income (44%), before progressing towards wealth creation, asset ownership and long-term financial security.
As part of the Women’s Month programme, Momentum will also host their third annual Women Who Make Moves in Sports Summit during August, placing women athletes’ financial wellbeing, commercial opportunities and career sustainability alongside conversations about sporting excellence. The event will explore how success in sport extends beyond medals to include financial security, sponsorship opportunities, career longevity and life after competition. Momentum will conclude the campaign with its flagship Momentum She Owns Her Success event on 15 August, bringing together women and allies to explore the financial realities behind ambition, resilience and long-term prosperity. Details of the speakers, venue and attendance process will be announced soon.
Reflecting on these realities, Qhawekazi Mdikane says Momentum hopes the campaign inspires women to define success on their own terms.
Through research, practical resources, meaningful conversations and real experiences, Momentum She Owns Her Success continues to celebrate women who are taking measurable steps towards building financially resilient futures.
