Ekurhuleni to host another high octane soccer tournament

Its official, the second edition,Gauteng Champion of Champions Charity Tournament is back, thanks to the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

 

Dubbed 3 champions team, 3 charities, and 3 hours of action soccer tournament due to its unique format that see the three participating teams playing against each other in a space of three hours and  compels the teams to donate part of their prize money to  three charities.

 

The inaugural tournament took place in March this year at Tsakane Stadium in Ekurhuleni, and organizers say it was resounding success, hence the second tournament is billed for the same venue come November 13.

 

Proudly sponsored by the provincial Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation department and other stakeholders to be named soon.

 

Organizers say this tournament will showcase explosive football action in years to come.  The foundational tournament was won by Super Sport United FC who edged out PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns FC  and Jomo Cosmos FC  by virtue of amassing more points.

 

Philasande Muvevi, Director of competitive sports in the department, said they always look for better ways to create platforms for people to benefit.

“We are stimulating township economy using sports as a platform for business,” She said.

 

This month’s tournament will see Supersport defending its title against Bidvest Wits and new kids in the league Highlands Park.

 

 

 

Ticket sales are open at Computicket. Participating teams have promised pulsating soccer action.

Coltrane Munyai, of Supersport, said “We will make sure that we win and make another project better.”

 

Sibonelo Ngidi, of Highlands Park, said with tongue in cheek, “We have an advantage to win because we have player no 12 since we are playing at home.”

 

He also pointed out that, his team was not in the PSL by fluke. “We are the champions of NFD playoffs.”

 

George Mogotsi, of Bidvest Wits, said his team was honored to play n this tournament.
