In case you need funding to pursue your academic dream and goals, The Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) is serious about increasing access to high quality and relevant skills development and training opportunities to Mzansi’s youth at large.

This was revealed at the Rand Show where this vocational skills training organisation had a striking, attractive eye catching display in one of the halls.

The organisation showcased its service offerings to the public and informed the youth about  educational opportunities available through the merSeta.

On the sidelines, ths publication managed to speak to Naphtaly Mokgotsane, the merSeta Acting Chief Operations Officer who didn’t mince his words about the organisation’s mission, values and objectives.

“We are committed to empowering young South Africans through education and training initiatives. We are here at the expo to highlight the various opportunities available to the youth, including bursaries to further their studies at higher education institutions in the country, apprenticeships, learnerships, and entrepreneurships.”

Mokgotsane clearly explained that, through the funding provided by the merSETA, young people can pursue numerous fields of study at universities and TVET colleges, particularly in engineering-related fields such as motor mechanics, motor mechanics, boiler making, fitting and turning, electrical, welding, and more.

“The organisation aims to equip young South Africans with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in these fields and contribute to the country’s economic growth.”

He further explained that the merSETA signed a Memorandum of Agreement with
NSFAS to fund the “missing middle” students.

This funding will be done for a three year period in partnership with NSFAS and is merely done to create future engineers and technicians that are in much demand in the country, adding that it’s a pilot programme to support technical schools in Gauteng and will soon  be rolled out to the Northern Cape and subsequently country wide.

Pressed to explain further he said, “We are targeting 300 youth who wants to study in this identified priority areas within our scope. Our Bursaries are very important for creating study opportunities so that we can have more engineers and technicians for the country.”

Mokgotsane also explained the organisation’s candidacy programme that helps graduates with mentorship and registration with the engineering relevant body.

Meanwhile a terse statement circulated to the media carried a punchy message saying ‘Attending the Rand Show is an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about the various opportunities available to them through the merSETA’

The merSETA Acting CEO,  Disa Mpande was on record saying, “We are committed to helping the youth of South Africa access the funding and services they need to succeed in their education and future careers. We invite all young people to visit our exhibition and learn more about the exciting opportunities available to them.”

“The merSETA exhibition at the Rand Show will allow young people to engage with the organisation’s representatives, ask questions, and learn about the various programmes and services available. The exhibition promises to be an informative and interactive experience for all visitors.”
