The countdown has officially begun! For the very first time, South Africa will play host to the prestigious IberCup, a globally celebrated youth football tournament. From 12–16 December 2024, Johannesburg will transform into a global football hub as some of the world’s top youth teams descend on Gauteng for an unforgettable week of competition, camaraderie, and community impact.
The IberCup has been a powerhouse in youth football since its inception in 2010, drawing over 170 countries annually. The South African debut will feature 196 teams, including 24 girls’ teams, competing across age categories from U8 to U19. Among the elite participants are international giants such as Benfica (Portugal), Paris Saint-Germain (France), RCD Espanyol (Spain), Skierolo (Polland), and PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), alongside local powerhouses Kaizer Chiefs,Mamelodi Sundowns, TS Galaxy and SuperSport United.
More than a sporting spectacle, the IberCup is committed to community empowerment and through a partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government, the tournament is sponsoring 70 teams from underprivileged schools and communities to take part in the tournament, ensuring inclusivity
With over 3,000 players set to take the field, the IberCup will offer South African talent the unique opportunity to showcase their skills in front of scouts from world-class clubs. This tournament isn’t just a competition, it’s a launchpad for young footballers dreaming of reaching the highest levels.
