JOBURG OMBUDSMAN BOOSTS EFFORTS IN CITIZEN INFORMATION CLINICS INITIATIVE

On Thursday, 13 February 2025, the Office of the Ombudsman for the City of Johannesburg will launch its seven-week Citizen Information Clinics Programme at the Eastbank Hall in Alexandra, North-East Johannesburg.

Under the theme “Here to Hear You”, the campaign will span all seven regions of the city, aiming to educate residents about their constitutional rights to fair and efficient basic municipal services.

“Effective service delivery is a catalyst for change. By creating platforms like our clinics, we, as an office of last resort, can help bridge the gap between the city and its residents while encouraging active citizenship. Last year, we welcomed thousands of residents from across the city, and this year we hope to reach even more as we expand our regional presence and contribute to accelerating service delivery within the Joburg Metro,” said Advocate Siduduzo Gumede, Johannesburg Ombudsman.

These clinics also focus on building strong, sustainable partnerships, requiring collaboration between the city’s departments, entities, and Chapter 9 institutions. These include the Consumer Goods and Services Ombuds, the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI), and the South African Human Rights Commission, all of which will be on-site to provide free legal consultations.

Residents are encouraged to attend these sessions to voice their concerns, seek guidance, and access a wide range of expertise and resources. This includes information on the complaint lodging process and awareness of their human rights and responsibilities.
