MEC CHILOANE URGES COMMUNITIES TO SUPPORT LEARNERS DURING EXAMS

MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane has urged communities to desist from any activities that could impede negatively learners’ studies and access to the examinations as the country readies for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations.

Exams commence on Monday, 21 October 2024 and concludes on 28 November 2024.

Giving an update on Monday at Edenvale Secondary School, on the province’s state of readiness for the upcoming NSC exams, MEC Chiloane announced that Gauteng was ready to facilitate the exams with integrity and credibility with zero technical irregularities.

A total of 189 693 candidates registered to the 2024 NSC exams in the province, 136 051 full-time and 53 642 part-time or repeater candidates which is a decrease from the 2023 which was 191 181 by a 0.78% margin.

“This is very important process and a sensitive period for our children, this is an examination that takes place after 12 years and plus for some and they have worked all their lives to get to this point.

“So, for that period we urge parents to give our children space to focus on examinations, no disturbance just support, including communities.

Chiloane appealed to communities not to just support Grade 12 learners but also other lower grades.

In cases where disruptions occur, the law would take its course.

“We are appealing to communities that we give our children support across and this cuts across, including grades below Grade 12, children are writing exams and should not be disturbed for whatever reason that they feel should inform their disruption of schools and that will not be tolerated.

“We have spoken to law enforcement agencies that should such happen harsh decisions be taken to ensure there is no disruption at all at any of our schools particularly high schools or exam centres where children will be writing these exams. keep away from our schools, our children are writing exams,” he warned.

Exams will be administered in 1 035 examination centres, with an addition of new 16 centres activated for this exam cycle.

Marking of scripts is scheduled to take place in two stages across a total of 18 Marking Centres, early session from 14 to 25 November 2024 with the main session on 01 to 16 December 2024.

National matric results announcement will be on 15, January 2025 and the Provincial release of 2024 NSC results on 16, January 2025.  Statements of results would be available at schools for collection by candidates on 16, January 2025.
