MEC DLAMINI’S VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF e-GOVERNMENT

In his first official staff address as the newly appointed MEC of Gauteng’s Department of e-Government, Mr. Bonginkosi Dhlamini highlighted the importance of teamwork, innovation, and service delivery for the department’s success. Emphasizing that this address was mandatory for all staff members, he expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he received and took the opportunity to foster dialogue on key issues faced by employees.

Dhlamini opened with a strong message of unity, acknowledging the department's resilience during the recent political transition. "It is important that we put our government first, respect the existence of this department, and serve our citizens with integrity," he remarked. He applauded the department for achieving a fourth consecutive unqualified audit and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency.

The MEC delved into the department’s key strategic goals, including its mandate to lead the province's digital transformation and enhance service delivery through technology.
He outlined  plans to reduce queues at public service sites by 50%, emphasizing the importance of cyber security and the need for digitizing sectors like health, transport, and education. Additionally, alongside the Head of Department (HoD), Mr. Castro Mosina, they addressed concerns raised by employees regarding the prolonged delays in filling vacant posts, acknowledging the frustration this causes and committing to expedite the recruitment process to strengthen the department’s workforce.
Employees also raised concerns about the lack of support for staff sports and recreational activities, highlighting that this has negatively impacted morale. In response, HoD Mosina recognised the importance of holistic staff well-being and committed to improving support for these activities through the Employee Health and Wellness initiatives, as they play a crucial role in fostering teamwork and maintaining a positive work environment.
Furthermore, the MEC established an open-door policy to address any concerns regarding any unfair labor practices, encouraging employees to approach him directly to resolve disputes fairly and transparently.
In closing, MEC Dhlamini called for collective responsibility and teamwork, stressing that the success of the department depends on the contributions of every employee. "We must all work together to guarantee that e-Government becomes a highly effective, service-driven department," he urged, leaving staff with a sense of motivation and responsibility as they embark on the journey ahead under his leadership.
