Tough talking Gauteng Finance MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko has issued a stern warning to Gauteng government accounting officers to pay for services rendered to government on time.
Speaking during a pre- budget briefing, Ralehoko told a horde of journalists that she wants all Gauteng accounting officers to take responsibility in their respective departments of making sure suppliers are duly paid.
“I must emphasise to all Accounting Officers in the province that part of exercising prudent financial management and good governance is paying suppliers on time for services rendered. When you pay a supplier, you are not doing them any favours. What you are doing is to honour an obligation that the state has to that supplier,”
The MEC also warned that all the departments who pay suppliers late must be named and shamed.
“We are pushing for 15 days to pay suppliers. We also urge the suppliers to use online invoicing system,” she said.
