Safa youngest referee

3 April 2018 – SAB League and ABC Motsepe League referee, Lucky Mosiane is not fazed by harsh comments and jeers made by hostile fans during highly contested matches in his hometown of Zeerust.

At only age 13, Mosiane is currently the youngest referee officiating in the SAB League and ABC Motsepe League and is determined to become one of the best whistle blowers to represent his province and eventually South Africa in a FIFA World Cup one day.

Born on 12 July 2004 at Lukubu Village just outside Zeerust, Mosiane’s interest in the game came at a very tender age of 7 when he started attending football matches where he eventually met his current mentor, Miriam Tshose who is a former SAFA Referee assessor.

“People always look at him and say he is too young to officiate such matches, but his drive and determination always silences his critics. He understands the game, not afraid to make decisions and is not easily intimidated by players or fans” said Tshose.

“There is so much attention given to promising football stars and I believe we need to do the same for officials, coaches and administrators who are involved in football from a very young age like Lucky.  He is very inquisitive and always wants to learn more about the game which is a sign of a very bright future for the young man” added Tshose.

The Grade 7 whistle blower from Mokgakala High School completed his SAFA Level 2 Referees course earlier this year in Rustenburg and hopes to emulate his role model, Zakhele Siwela who was recently named amongst top referees from across the world to officiate in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
