SPEAKER COUNCIL CONCLUDES BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAMME IN ENNERDALE WITH A VISIT TO SPECTRUM PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Speaker of Council, Cllr Nobuhle Mthembu, took her Back-to-School campaign to Spectrum Primary School in Ennerdale on Monday 10 February 2025. The campaign is in line with the Office of the Speaker’s mission of taking the Legislature to the people.

During her visit, the Speaker donated school shoes and socks to learners, ensuring that every child steps into the classroom with confidence, while addressing some of the immediate pressures around school uniform items. This initiative, supported by Glenryck SA, marks a positive and empowering start to the 2025 academic year for the learners of Spectrum Primary.

Beyond the donations, the visit also provided a platform for the Speaker to interact with the children, offering them words of encouragement as they embark on a new school year.

“Our aim as the Legislature in the City of Johannesburg is to make sure that no child is left behind when it comes to education. While schools fall under the Department of Education and not the City’s jurisdiction, we remain committed to supporting learners in any way we can. It’s important that every child feels equal to their peers,” said Cllr Mthembu.

The Back-to-School campaign, which has reached various regions of the City since its launch in late January 2025, is backed by Glenryck SA as Glenryck’s involvement highlights the vital role of corporate support in shaping the future of young learners in Johannesburg, demonstrating how partnerships between government and businesses can drive meaningful change in communities.

“Education is the golden key that unlocks opportunities for our youth, and Glenryck is proud to be part of this journey,” said Sakkie Luther, Sales and Marketing Executive at Glenryck SA, emphasising the company’s commitment to education.

With new shoes on their feet and fresh motivation in their hearts, the learners of Spectrum Primary School are ready to embrace the year ahead.
