Valentine’s Day is synonymous with love, and the Thuso Phala Foundation channelled that spirit into a heartfelt mission: uplifting children with disabilities in Johannesburg.

Former football star Thuso Phala announced the foundation’s commitment to partnering with schools for children with special needs. “I’m thrilled about the positive changes ahead. Our aim is to empower children with disabilities and foster an environment where they feel excited to attend school,” said Phala.

Long-serving football administrator Suzan Khoza Phala, who is also the foundation’s chairperson and Thuso’s mother, expressed her optimism, highlighting plans to collaborate with like-minded partners, including the City of Johannesburg. Drawing from her football background, she will lead programmes for mothers and children, especially focusing on mothers of football players.

Thapelo Maluleke, Sport and Recreation Officer for the City of Johannesburg Region C, emphasised the event’s significance. “Today, provided a fantastic opportunity to network, even sparking interest in an autism workshop. Events like this open our eyes to new possibilities and foster collaboration,” he said.

Maluleke’s connections with various organisations showcased the potential for future partnerships within the City.
