Today, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development and Property Management led by the Committee Chairperson, Thulani Ndlovu conducted oversight visits at the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) projects located at West Rand. The Committee visited Mayibuye Clinic in Munsieville, the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDHS) West Rand Regional Office and Relebogile Secondary School in Carletonville.
Mayibuye Clinic remains in a distressed construction phase following the termination of a contractor due to poor performance. The project was initiated in 2019 and anticipated to be a state-of-the-art clinic, however the site currently consists of a foundation and pillars. The Portfolio Committee flagged urgent inter-governmental interventions between the DID and the Gauteng Department of Health (GDH) to find solutions and resume construction.
Next visit was at the GDHS West Rand Regional Office. The DID is responsible for procurement of a suitable office space for the Client Department, GDHS to ensure that their operational needs are effectively met. The visits concluded at Relebogile Secondary School where the project focuses on stabilising a sinkhole, conducting structural repairs, and ensuring compliance with dolomite land development standards.
The Portfolio Committee reinforced the importance of timely and quality infrastructure delivery to meet community needs and further committed to continuous oversight to ensure the successful completion of projects.
