Fast growing and blue chip Gauteng Department of e-Government, Research and Development has received another clean bill of financial health from the Auditor General.
It is now two years in a row the department is achieving a clean audit feat. This was revealed recently when the department presented its Annual Report for the financial year 2022/23 at the Gauteng Legislature.
This department was officially proclaimed in 2015 to create a connected government by enabling simpler and more convenient government processes, and to act as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth by promoting effective, efficient and customer centric processes across government
Each year the Auditor General assesses the public sector on its stewardship of public funds, implementation of
Government policies and compliance with key legislation.
The department continues with driving the modernisation of Gauteng government departments.
Amongst other things, the Department of e-Government plays a major role in building a smart
Gauteng City Region that provides efficient quality and accessible services to its citizens.
To achieve this goal, it must modernise government services and foster the implementation of a
people-centred system that stimulates sustainable economic growth through transformative 4IR
technologies.
The Departments’ overall expenditure was at 92,00% for the financial year.
“This is an indication that we have channeled our maximum resources to the required service delivery area. The Department also achieved 73 % of its performance key deliverable measures, across all planned Programmes,” Read a terse statement.
MEC for COGTA, e-Gov Research and Development, Mzi Khumalo, said the department has put in a lot of work
in sustaining their clean audit finding adding it was coupled with the introduction of financial controls
and a culture of prudent spending.
“This is a very important day for us whilst it has also been a difficult time for us, as we had to replicate what we achieved in the past year. We have put together
a clear strategy coupled with controls. This is to ensure that implementation in the department is in line with government policies and procedures,” Khumalo argued.
Khumalo also pointed out Good governance and constant monitoring were a pillar for the success and learning from the previous challenges and issues raised by the Auditor General for the previous financial year.
“Our inclusive approached to work has yielded results. Audit is not the sole responsibility of the
Executive but every staff member. In that way, a simple thing as leave management is handled professionally as that could determine whether you get a clean audit or not,” Khumalo said.
