Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi has switched on and launched the online learner admissions for the 2019 academic year today.

The department has also revealed that just in the first hour after going live, more than 45 000 applications were received. They further revealed that their Call Centre was receiving 400 calls every 10 minutes.

Prior to that Lesufi told journalists that the department believed that Online Aplication system is convenient, easy to access and helps the department for accurate reporting and planning.

Parents wishing to apply are advised to go to the nearest community libraries, designated schools, district offices or do it at home.

Lesufi also revealed to the media that the 2019 application system has been modernized.

“It is user friendly and takes far more than five minutes to process the application. We have brought Home Affairs department on board. As soon as you log your ID number, the system validates the information in less than a second,” said Lesufi.

The MEC, also disclosed that the current system gives an applicant four choices of placement as opposed to the three offered by the previous one.

“We have also eliminated language preferences. Parents can apply to any school irrespective whether the school offers particular vernacular languages.

“If the numbers are convincing we will approach the SGB and tell them to change the language.”
