Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has hailed the selection of both Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma to the South Africa squad for next month’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Nigeria.“Both Lebo and Aubrey deserve it, in my honest opinion. Stuart (Baxter) called me and asked me questions around both of them which I obviously answered. I told him that he is getting two good players and that they’ve had very, very good seasons and now it’s about taking it to the next level, especially a guy like Aubrey.
“He has had a fantastic season, he’s worked extremely hard but now he’s got to be able to lift his game, raise his game to another level. And that’s something only he can answer really,” said Tinkler.
“It’s the first time I’ve had a national team coach call and ask my opinion of our players and even other players who were selected. It’s a good thing because ultimately we get to spend the most time with the players, much more than he (Baxter) will. Most times he only has three or four days to prepare for a game and I think its very important that the coach of the national team has a very good relationship with the coaches of the clubs in order to get their opinions. That’s a good step.”
Manyama has won nine cops for Bafana Bafana while Ngoma is uncapped.
