The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL), Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe and the entire GPL family is saddened by the untimely passing of Honourabble Sipho Makama.

Hon. Makama was serving as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (MPL) at the time of his death. Since his passing the GPL has been inundated with messages from various members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and various Political Parties reflecting the spirit of unity and Ubuntu that GPL embodies as a multiparty institution.

The passing away of Hon. Makama has robbed the people of Gauteng and the entire nation of a selfless leader who dedicated his entire life towards serving the people and improving their living conditions. Hon. Makama will be best remembered for his humanity and dedication towards the fight against the triple challenges of Poverty, Unemployment and Inequality that currently confront the South African nation.

As the GPL, we pray together that the Almighty God grant his family peace, comfort and strength during this difficult time of bereavement. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as we truly hope that they can gather the strength and courage needed to endure this painful period of their lives whilst acknowledging that we too share their pain and lose.

Hon. Makama died a gallant freedom fighter who dedicated his entire life to serving the cause of humanity, to liberate our people and improve their living conditions, through proper and honest accountability.  He dedicated his life to the most noble cause of humanity that of fighting for the freedom of the South African people without expecting any reward. He was rare generation that displayed supreme commitment to the emancipation of the poor deprived and oppressed.

One of those young people that never enjoyed their youth stage, who committed their lives in a slogan seen by other as suicidal, but to his generation “Freedom or Death, Victory is Certain” was a commitment he identified with for the betterment of his Motherland.
