MEC FAITH MAZIBUKO LEADS OUTREACH AIMED AT BRINGING SERVICES TO TURFONTEIN

In a determined effort to make vital government services accessible to communities, the Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD), led by MEC Faith Mazibuko, rolled out a service blitz in Turffontein on Wednesday, 06 November 2024. This hands-on outreach saw MEC Mazibuko and her team connecting directly with residents and street beggars to link them with support programs and to address their needs.

Starting at Rotunda Park, MEC Mazibuko briefed officials, emphasizing a proactive approach: “Today’s campaign is about reaching out to those in need, whether it’s children without care or individuals requiring skills development, and ensuring they connect with the right departments.” She firmly added, “Gone are the days of begging on the streets; we’re here to guide those in need, including those with disabilities, toward the support they deserve by collaborating with various departments.”

The campaign not only addressed social services but also drew attention to local safety concerns. A Turffontein resident shared her appreciation for the initiative and called for stronger police presence to help curb crime and disturbances in the area, particularly from night clubs.

This outreach campaign included the Zimbabwe Consulate Office, offering passport applications, temporary travel documents, birth certificates, and repatriation support for the Zimbabwean community. This partnership highlights GDSD’s commitment to a comprehensive approach, tackling social issues through collaboration and community-centred solutions.
