MEC MAILE CONDUCTS A SITE VISIT AT SEOTLOANA PRIMARY SCHOOL IN TEMBISA

Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development and Human Settlements Mr. Lebogang Maile visited the Seotloana Primary School in Tembisa on 13 October 2023. The purpose of MEC’s visit was to assess works done at the facility. This is a restoration and rehabilitation project that aims to provide a safe and conducive environment for learning and teaching.The school was positioned to meet growth in demand for educational needs to the community of Seotloana.

MEC Maile was accompanied by Internal Project Manager Mr. Richard Tshabalala, Project Manager from the contractor, and the DID team. The team gave an update on the project, indicating that all works are completed, and a handover was done to the Department of Education. The scope of work consists of the restorative repairs and rehabilitation of primary school which comprise of refurbishment of floor finishes, wall finishes, ceilings, roof coverings, masonry, plumbing, mechanical works, electrical works and making good cracks in concrete slabs.

“The extent of the works is the demolition and re-installation of leaking roofs, replacement of the existing ceiling with new with new acoustic ceilings, removal of vinyl tiles and installation of new floor covering, removal of chalkboards and installation new chalk boards, removal wooden doors and installation of new meranti framed doors, plaster and paint, storm water drainage system (pavement), re-sealing of expansion joints, electrical installations, mechanical installations, explained Project Manager Mr. Richard Tshabalala.

The project also provides skills through employment of the participants of EPWP. It will also provide transfer of skills through the exit training, subject the approval of funds. The restorative repairs and rehabilitation of the school has been completed within the allocated budget and time frame, and no challenges were experienced during construction. MEC Maile was content with the works done at the school and that the environment is safe and conducive for learning and teaching.
