UPDATE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS TO AVOID DISCONNECTION OF SERVICES, SAYS CITY

The City of Johannesburg appeals to municipal account holders to immediately update their contact details with the City to avoid the risk of having their electricity or water services disconnected due to missed payments.

Currently, there are active customers whose contact details are incorrect, outdated or unreachable, making it difficult for the City to deliver statements and critical service-related communications.  The onus is on the customer receiving services like water, electricity, sewer, refuse removal, etc. to get in touch with the City and ensure that they receive their municipal statements for example.

The City’s Group Finance Department Director of Customer Communications, Kgamanyane Maphologela says, there is a growing number of customers who either don’t give correct contact details or don’t update their current contact details with the City.

“As the City we are ever determined to improve the services we offer to the residents. We strive for transparency, accuracy and completeness of billing of customer accounts and improved relations with each member of the community. To this end we have embarked on a drive to cleanse and update the data on all customer accounts.

“Customers with outdated contact details risk not having their municipal statements being delivered to them timeously, which makes them vulnerable to missing their monthly payment for municipal services when they are due. Failure to make payment on the due date will result in their services disconnected effectively,” says Maphologela.

Maphologela warns that, it remains the customer’s responsibility to furnish the City with the correct contact information, to enable them to receive statements and communication from the City.

“The City’s Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy is clear that, non-receipt of invoice does not absolve the customer from paying the account that is due,” says Maphologela.

Maphologela says it is crucial for the City to have accurate account holders’ contact details, for prompt responses to addresses and resolve their municipal services queries, communicate important updates, policy changes, and service announcements in a timely manner and furthermore ensuring high level of service satisfaction. The City also has the facilities of sending municipal accounts electronically to customers and if you have an email address, we would like to encourage you to submit your email address.

The City encourages account holders to without further delay come and update their information at the Group Finance Department. What will be required?

The following will be required to update account details:

  • Proof of ownership
  • ID documents or certified copies
  • Account number
  • Municipal statement
  • Telephone numbers of account holders
  • Emails of account holders
